Well, well, well!  Let me blow the cobwebs off of my blog, and for what better purpose than to introduce you to Robinsongs For Kids' new teacher:  Catalina Arango!  Catalina completed the Music Together® teacher training recently and has been apprenticing with me this summer.  She will be teaching 2 classes this fall:  Monday at 10:00 and Wednesday at 9:00.  I did a little interview with Catalina - here's how it went!

RR (me):  I love your accent;  where are you from?

Catalina:  Thanks!  I am originally from Colombia, and I lived in Mexico for 7 years before moving to Ann Arbor 4 years ago.

RR:  Wow!  What did you do in Mexico?

Catalina:  I was an elementary school teacher;  I taught kindergarten through 3rd grade!

RR:  What brought you to Michigan?

Catalina:  I came here to get my Masters in School Counseling at Eastern Michigan University.  While here I have subbed in the Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Milan school systems.

RR:  Boy, you have been busy!  How do you unwind?

Catalina:  I do yoga!  In fact, I am a registered yoga teacher, RYT, through Yoga Alliance, and I'm a certified kids yoga teacher through Rainbow Kids Yoga.

RR:  What?  Kids Yoga!  Do you mean we could get a class going of downward facing puppies?

Catalina:  We could!

RR:  Something to think about!  Hey, who is your favorite musician?

Catalina:  I love Sting, and an Argentinian artist:  Gustavo Cerati.

RR:  Gotta love Sting.  What's your favorite kind of food?

Catalina:  I love Indian food, Thai, Italian, and Arabic - I'm a vegetarian!

RR:  Yum - it all sounds good to me!  What is your favorite thing about Michigan?

Catalina:  The seasons, and the fact that there are so many trees here you get to see the seasons in all their splendor!  We don't have seasons in Colombia - it is on the equator!

RR:  What's the most important thing you would like Ann Arbor families to know about you?

Catalina:  I would like them to know that teaching the benefits of music, yoga and art to children is my mission in life, and, more important, what I love to do.
